Rate Hike in Illinois by ComEd

According to Crain’s Chicago Business there’s a rate hike coming in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2010.

ComEd the local utility which provides electricity in Northern Illinois – to approximately 70% of the state’s population including Chicago – has announced the inevitable increase to recoup the cost of maintaining and upgrading the system and power-lines.

While I certainly understand that they incur costs and expenses for regular updates – I don’t see why it needs to be increased because the upkeep of the delivery system (note: ComEd does not own power plants – they just maintain the delivery) should already … Continue Reading


30% hike overnight in PPL Rates – Pennsylvania

I was hoping to start off the first post of this blog on a positive note. However I just read that Pennsylvania (a state I usually visit every year) will have a huge increase (29.7%) in electricity rates as 2010 begins. Thats a nice way to start the next decade.

The reason is the cap on PPL Electric Utilities is expiring so there’s no easing into this. However – if you live in PA – don’t panic – commentator Tim Mekeel from Lancaster has provided a few solutions.
