Saving Energy, Saving Money 1

In this day and age, as eco-awareness grows more and more people are trying to save energy. That’s a good thing! To top it off, energy savings equals money savings, and who’s not looking to save some dough?
Whether you’re the one paying the price or just someone who lives in a home, works in a business or happens to be passing through, it is good to put some energy savings tips into practice everywhere you go. Let the habit form, and you will be helping yourself and others to save energy, save money, and save the planet.
You have to be conscientious and committed to put energy savings tips into practice. I know someone who is very much about helping the earth by living green, saving money and watching energy consumption. However, she is married to someone who could care less. He turns on multiple electricity sucking devices at the same time, leaves on the lights on, along with other electrical objects, and then leaves the house… with everything going. She is always trying to tell him it is not a good idea. He justifies it with “I forgot,” and “We’re not paying the bill…” (it’s a utilities paid apartment). She often wonders if he will ever take this seriously.
Energy savings is, in fact, a very serious matter. There are plenty of things you can do to see your energy usage decline and your dollar savings rise.
First and foremost, if you are able to do so, install energy efficient doors, windows and appliances. This will go a long way in making your energy dollars stretch. You home will also be climate controlled, allowing you to use less energy to heat and cool your home. Energy star rated appliances and products are a smart move. They might cost more up front, however, the phenomenal savings on your utility bill will have them paying for themselves over and over again through the years.
With appliances, newer models are going to be much more efficient than that 20 year old model that is barely hanging on. With washers, purchase a front-loader. When it comes to refrigerators, skip the automatic ice-make and water dispenser and see if you can get your hands on one with a freezer that resides at the bottom. These are much more energy efficient than top freezers and side-by-sides.
Aside from updating and upgrading you home and appliances, there are plenty of other things you can do to save energy. Start with the basics. If a room is not in use at the moment, turn off all lights and appliances and anything that is using electricity. If no one is in the room, what is the point in having that stuff turned on? It will just drain your energy and your wallet. If you have appliances, such as computers, stereos, etc., that have a sleep mode, put it to use. It costs more to turn an appliance back on that it does to simply bring it out of hibernation. Unplug items that are not often used, only plugging them back in when needed.
