Average Retail Price of Electricity for Residential Use

The latest report released by the US Energy Information Administration was on January 15th, 2010 which covered the average retail price of electricity across all end-use sectors.

With a focus on residential use in this post – lets examine the states with the highest and the lowest average retail price.

(Note: Costs are given in US cents per kilowatt hour)

*North Dakota had the lowest average costs for residential use at 7.83 cents per kilowatt hour for October 2009 while if you go back to October of 2008 – Idaho had the lowest average cost with 7.57 cents.

*The distinction for the highest average cost for residential use goes to Hawaii with a whopping 26.45 cents per kilowatt hour and it continues to lead the nation as it did in October 2008 with 35.74 being the average cost back then.
